Person confesses to sexual offenses targeting boys at summer camp

Courtroom illustration Legal proceedings
The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who spiked candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the law enforcement once more.

She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
